Job Description
The Domestic Tax Principal will lead domestic tax planning and compliance. The ideal candidate will be the primary contact for domestic tax issues that arise within the organization. This person will guide tax planning initiatives from adoption through implementation to ensure full compliance with legal requirements and tax aspects of financial statements. Focus on tax operational aspects of business transformations, M&A activity, and Onesource system upgrades to achieve operational and cost efficiencies. Improve existing domestic tax processes related to intercompany activities and transfer pricing to ensure processes are complete, consistent, and operationally efficient. Manage tax audits, domestic compliance, and the quarterly tax provision. Build strong relationships inside and outside the organization through thoughtful collaboration and mentoring. Lead the US tax compliance function and collaborate with the International tax to improve efficiencies within the foreign provision process. Other responsibilities include domestic issue identification and analysis, staying current on domestic tax matters, coordination across the tax department and other functions outside of tax, and interacting with outside auditors.
What you will do
- Lead domestic tax compliance.
- Prepare the Domestic tax provision. Manage the annual tax audit. Review and sometimes prepare the US federal and state income and franchise tax returns. Review sales & use tax and property tax returns. Manage the quarterly deliverables.
- Special projects and the go-to expert in US tax issues.
- Lead domestic tax transformation initiatives to improve consistency, accuracy, and efficiency and reduce overall operating costs. On an ongoing basis, develop and improve processes.
- Oversee domestic tax audits.
- Partner and build strong relationships with tax, accounting, and finance functions within QAD as well as auditors and external advisors.
- Other duties as assigned
- The preferred candidate will live and work in the Pacific Time zone, or Mountain time.
Qualifications
- Education/Licenses: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) and/or Masters degrees in Accounting or Tax. CPA and/or MST or JD with LLM in Tax strongly preferred
- Experience: 8+ years of strategic and operational tax experience with Big 4 firm and/or in-house tax department of a reputable multinational company
- International tax experience to lead projects and assist as needed
- Computer skills: Strong computer skills utilizing Excel, Alteryx, Onesource Provision, and Onesource Income Tax
- Other knowledge or skills:
- Comprehensive and demonstrable technical skills related to US GAAP accounting principles, ASC 740, and federal and state income tax concepts, with exposure to and understanding of international tax concepts.
- Must be a self-starter who handles multiple projects with competing priorities under minimum supervision
- Organized and attentive to detail with strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills; and the ability to research complex tax matters
- Strong aptitude for identifying and implementing process improvements
- Positive attitude, eager to learn, and willing to take on challenges
- Proven track record in meeting various deadlines associated with day-to-day responsibilities alongside special project work
- Strong experience with tax provision and compliance software. ONESOURCE Provision and/or ONESOURCE Income Tax preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Passion for taxation.
- Nice to have: Big Four experience.
- Preferred if based in Pacific or Mountain time
