Position Details

We're looking for a senior full stack software engineer to join us full-time, locally and/or in a remote capacity. Requirements – Experience

  • 5+ years of full stack development experience (back to front).
  • Has been responsible for the entire lifecycle of code in multiple projects, from scratch to QA to deployment to maintenance.
  • Has experience implementing a RESTful API and an application which consumes it.
  • Is familiar with the philosophy and implementation of development automation: tests, continuous integration, cloud deployment, and frequent production releases using an Agile/SCRUM process.
  • Some DevOps experience is required.

Requirements – Technical

  • Experienced in JavaScript including ES6, await/async, linting and front-end frameworks. We use libraries and frameworks as needed, but you need to be able to write and understand plain JS. Experience with Node and Browser based environments is required.
  • Understands REST APIs and their role in application architectures. Has used and built APIs from the ground up.
  • Experience with front end development: HTML, CSS, and familiarity with the ecosystem of related technologies (SASS, DOM). In addition, Vue (or similar framework) experience and knowledge of static site generators such as Jekyll/Hugo are helpful.
  • Some relational database experience is required. Pluses include: Experiences in relational and in-memory databases (MySQL, Postgres, Redis) as well as knowledge in generic SQL.
  • Understand how to use Git(+Hub) and GitHub Flow.
  • Some experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Heroku, or similar services.

We are seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer -Remote to join our team. In this role, you will be supporting applications, systems, and changes to existing software or launches of new software that meet business and organizational needs. Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with Development and DevOps to build a test bed and generate test data supporting Audio/video ingest, workflows, system configurations.

  • Define, prioritize, and execute testing scope for end-to-end functional, non-functional, regression, integration, performance, regression, smoke testing.

Qualifications

About the Role:

Guardant’s HPC team builds and operates the computational technology backbone of the company. 

This includes scalable data storage that holds petabytes of genomics data, high-performance compute clusters running a custom bioinformatics pipeline in production and R&D environments, and the software infrastructure that hosts an ecosystem of services for internal data processing and external data integration. To facilitate Guardant Health’s fast growth in the next few years, the HPC team is looking for a strong technical engineer who can help maintain and help grow the HPC infrastructure during its aggressive expansion, while working with corporate IT, SQA, and DevOps/SRE teams.  

While preferred to have someone local to the San Francisco Bay and on premises in Redwood City and Palo Alto, this role can be mostly worked remotely.  While on rotation, during maintenances and during cluster deployments, being present at the location of the work is required. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a technical lead in day to day operations

  • Help manage the HPC interconnects

  • Help integrate the HPC systems with the bandwidth on-demand system

  • Help integrate the HPC system with the single namespace storage system

  • Help integrate cloud bursting as part of the HPC abstraction work

  • Work with the networking infrastructure team to manage and optimize the connectivity to and from the HPC systems and locales

  • Help manage multiple HPC clusters and cluster file systems. 

  • Help research, develop and implement the next generation HPC solution

  • Troubleshoot the production system stack down to source code level e.g. shell scripts, python and others.

  • Maintain, monitor, and support the infrastructure environment and/or facilities.

  • Use and maintain enhanced production monitoring and additional capability.

  • Support improvements for increased system reliability and performance.

  • Support multiple systems or applications of medium to high complex (complexity defined by size, technology used, and system feeds and interfaces) with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility.

  • Support systems at remote locations, including internationally

  • Work with offsite consultants to maintain the infrastructure

  • Work with vendors to troubleshoot, upgrade and repair systems as needed

  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation

Qualifications

What You’ll Do

Job Description

As the Data Engineering Director, you will lead a team of data engineers responsible for building efficient, maintainable production-grade data pipelines. This role can be based in our Jersey City, NJ location (hybrid work model) or remote.

  • This is a hands-on role with a small team, where you will have the opportunity to provide technical leadership and serve as the bridge between our Data and Product Engineering organizations
  • Lead and grow a small team of Data Engineers, including career and performance management
  • Partner with the Analytics Engineering team build and maintain the roadmap for our data stack and infrastructure
  • Identify existing data capability and infrastructure gaps or opportunities within and across initiatives and provide subject matter expertise in support of remediation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field required. Advance Degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience as data engineer, or other data-related role; at least 4 years of management experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience in the entity resolution space
  • Strong Python and SQL skills and knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT development principles, data warehousing concepts, and software engineering concepts
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) – EC2, ECS, S3, SQS, RDS, Dynamo DB, Cloud Watch, IAM and Lambda.
  • Expertise with Gitlab and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience managing a cloud data warehouse and a workload scheduling and orchestration framework
  • Strong ability to understand and document critical data through effective data collection, data analysis and data interpretation. 
  • A demonstrated self-starter with strong communication and project management skills

What you’ll do:

  • Help establish standards for development teams and collaborate on initiatives with infrastructure, platform, and other software engineering teams
  • Assist fellow teammates by conducting code reviews and pairing
  • Leverage our tech stack: Primarily Ruby/Rails/Node.js/React/Postgres hosted on AWS and increasingly using Kubernetes and languages such as Java and Typescript, CircleCI for Continuous Integration, and a combination of ArgoCD and an in-house tool for CD.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Professional experience with React, Typescript or Javascript, CSS and SAAS styling is a must
  • Knowledge and understanding of GIT Version Control, HTTP requests, Restful APIs, API integrations is a must
  • 8+ years experience in software engineering fundamentals, Test Driven Development and Design principles
  • Understanding the tradeoffs between short-term and long-term goals and balancing immediate needs with strategic initiatives
  • Experience in working with software, platforms, and infrastructure at scale (we run thousands of hosts and have millions of users)
  • Experience in building modern Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery systems at scale
  • Experience working with a team on large initiatives with the ability to course-correct as needed
  • Experience working with modern web development, including testing, staging, deploying, and monitoring
