The Basics: 

As a Tanium Software Engineer II focused on Full-stack,  you will build and maintain best-of-breed services that power products as part of a nimble development team. Tanium focuses on a customer engagement model and feedback process to ensure our products are designed the right way from the beginning. 

What you’ll do: 

• Build and maintain Tanium's backend services alongside an agile development team 
• In partnership with our frontend and endpoint teams you will design, develop and test new product ideas from the ground up while working with product management for feedback and input 
• Work on small teams that tackle big challenges in common components like a common data service tasked with unifying and consolidating endpoint data across the entire ecosystem, handling time series data that drive dashboarding and reporting, and exposing data externally through GraphQL enabling partners (like Salesforce) to easily integrate. 
• Delivering higher level services enabled by our core services that directly enable our products. These services focus on everything from security to operations to auditing. 

We’re looking for someone with:

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is C$75,000 to C$230,000. This range is an estimate for what Tanium will pay a new hire. Responsibilities

• Coordinate work with engineering teams internally and at several suppliers to ensure 100% on-time performance for all customer software deliverables.
• Ensure that all development, testing, and validation timing meet customer milestones and deliverables based on internal and supplier development schedules.
• Manage program according to A-SPICE processes.
• Work with the team closely to understand the status of the development, identify issue areas, propose solutions to those areas, and report the status to management as well as to customer frequently.
• Establish software program timing plans to proactively guide projects through all phases of software development and ensure progress is being made toward project completion and meeting customer expectations and deliverables. As part of our software engineering and product development department, we have established a team called Demo Experience.This team focuses on optimising processes, data, and tools for our in-house demo/sandbox accounts generation and management. This serves multiple internal & external customers (Sales, External Partnerships, Product Development and testing).

Your role in this team will be to help us architect and implement new tools to support this. Think of it as this - we need to make sure our various teams can generate & manage test, demo, and sandbox accounts as smoothly and efficiently as possible. We achieve this through designing and maintaining the tech stack, extensions, and related processes. We are very important enablers to many of our internal departments and external partners, and always aim to push our tools above and beyond.

• Develop and maintain automation tools to update firmware on servers and components in Cloudflare’s fleet
• Work with software teams to validate bug fixes and performance of new firmware revisions
• Test and deploy firmware updates to the fleet, monitoring the progress of the rollout for compliance and reliability
• Work with server and component vendors to obtain, debug, and maintain the latest updates
• Work with our Site Reliability Engineering teams to triage bug reports
• Support our Data Centre Engineering teams in resolving hardware issues
• Communicate your results and updates through blog posts, internal talks, and tickets

Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
• Desire to learn about the Cloudflare hardware used by almost 20% of all web sites
• Desire to learn how a diverse server fleet is managed at scale
• Desire to learn the tools Cloudflare uses to maintain and monitor our hardware
• Knowledge of PXE booting
• Knowledge of configuration management, in particular we use salt to manage our fleet
• Knowledge of Redfish, IPMI and server remote management protocols
• Knowledge of running production mission critical systems

• Familiarity with server hardware architecture
• Knowledge of debugging server hardware faults and the ability to engage with our sourcing team and vendors to improve quality
• Experience of managing large fleets comprising of thousands of servers
