In this role, you will: 

  • Work with product managers, designers, firmware and infra engineers to architect, build, test and deliver full stack features across front-end, back-end and mobile. Golang, GraphQL, Typescript, React and React Native are some of the components of our technology stack. Direct experience with these technologies is not required.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the production systems that your team owns and provide operational support.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 8+ years of experience designing and building products in a skilled software engineering team

Kasa is looking for a Software Engineer - Contractor to join our Engineering team. The position will report to the Director of Engineering. This role is fully remote and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week from the contractor to collaborate effectively with our team.

About the Team

Our Product & Engineering team is split between The United States, Mexico and Hungary. Our engineers have diverse backgrounds in hospitality, consulting, real estate, and technology. We run an agile 2-week sprint development process and consider a strong culture-add not just a fit, but a requirement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and raise the bar for engineering standards by making sure that the code is secure, performant, scalable, and of high-quality
  • Work together with product managers, designers, and other engineers to find, rank, and implement solutions for challenging business issues pertaining to pricing strategies, inventory control, demand forecasting, revenue optimization, and customer segmentation
  • Create excellent technical specification documents that outline a software solution's requirements, architecture, design, and implementation specifics, as well as its testing needs and deployment strategies
  • Develop strategies in close collaboration with the accounting and finance departments to ensure that financial objectives are met and that financial reporting laws and regulations are followed
  • Effectively communicate with all organizational stakeholders, even those who are not technically oriented, in order to comprehend business requirements and offer solutions that address them

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 5+ years of relevant experience as a full-stack engineer
  • At least 5+ years of software engineering experience within the tech industry
  • Extensive experience working with TypeScript
  • Proven experience developing server-side Node.js applications using frameworks like Nest.js or Express.js
  • Proficiency with relational and non-relational database technologies, including PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB, and MySQL
  • Demonstrable expertise in setting up and managing cloud-based web applications, such as AWS

The position

You'll join the Growth team, responsible for the development and maintenance of our public-facing website. The Growth team is a subset of our engineering team, which consists of approximately 200 engineers across Frontend, Backend, SRE, and QA. We're organized into cross-functional development teams assigned to specific verticals.

Our team works with React and Next.js on the frontend. On the backend, we use Elixir and Phoenix. Postgres is our database of choice. GitLab is used as a version control tool and a CI/CD solution; we use Linear as our issue tracker. Our applications are hosted on AWS. We fully rely on our CI for deployments and deploy multiple times per day.

The base salary range for this full-time position is between $38,900 USD to $87,500 USD. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

What you will do:

We’re targeting a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys building commercial products and will play a key role in the delivery of highly reliable, scalable, and maintainable applications. What about the tech?

All our code is in Git. Our services are written in Go and we make extensive use of SQL with both Postgres and duckDB.  We do not use an ORM.  We use AWS but our architecture remains cloud agnostic.  Frontends are written in Svelte with JS and SCSS with a sprinkle of Swift and Java for native where low level device access is needed.

 

There’s no need to know everything from day one! If you are stronger on one side than the other it is fine.  Don’t worry if you’re more familiar with other languages or frameworks so long as you’re keen on learning we can help you get up to speed.

  • Build features and improvements from conceptualisation to realisation working with both backend, middleware, and frontend technologies.

  • Build and operate infrastructure, toolset and deployment pipelines.
  • Work in the field with the operations team to deploy and certify testing and end customer sites.
  • Take operational responsibility for the services that are owned by your team.
  • Test new and existing features with direct access to a range of DroneShield devices. Raise and resolve bug reports.
  • Comfortable running software in Linux environments.
  • Familiar with designing and building distributed and scalable systems.

Qualifications
