Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

What you'll do 

Cloudflare is seeking an International Payroll Specialist to join our Finance team. To succeed in this role, you will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with internal team members in addition to handling external service providers. You will own all aspects of Cloudflare’s payroll processes for our international employees. The International Payroll Specialist will report to the Payroll Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Help manage all payroll operations related to employee compensation, bonuses, commissions, equity transaction, benefits, etc.; this includes processing payroll for exempt and non-exempt workers, researching discrepancies and identifying and resolving payroll-related issues
  • Partner with HR to keep all payroll records accurate and up to date
  • Provide formal and ad-hoc analysis of payroll, benefits, and headcount
  • Oversee the delivery of out of cycle/ad hoc payments to employees and production and issuance of manual checks or electronic transfers to bank accounts
  • Support annual financial statement, defined benefit plan, and other audits as required
  • Respond to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matter

Examples Of Desirable Skills, Knowledge And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and/or equivalent combination of education
  • 2-3 years of international payroll experience 
  • Highly analytical with a strong working knowledge of payroll and tax processes with multiple withholdings, benefits (health and welfare and retirement), garnishments, labor compliance, accounting principles related to payroll.
  • Demonstrated expertise supporting best practice payroll processes, systems, policies, and key internal controls
  • Expertise with Workday a plus. 
  • Familiarity with NetSuite a plus.

About the role

Pay Transparency:

We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team to work on payroll in the United States/(Canada) North America. The ideal candidate will have in depth-knowledge of the US payroll processes, year end tasks as related to payroll, and be proficient in using Workday. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for our US and Canada employees adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Process semi-monthly payrolls for US and Canada employees including Commissions, Sales Bonuses, and Incentive payments. Process several off cycles monthly for equity and ad hoc off cycles. Off cycle payroll processing may include the Annual Bonus payroll, terminations, adjustments, and other ad hoc requests.
  • Calculate Paid Leave Top Up payments and closely work with Benefits to ensure accurate processing of leaves.
  • Review and verify timekeeping records and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Communicate daily with vendors for payroll processing and tax notice investigation and coordinate any necessary adjustments or updates. Process payroll adjustments via manuals as needed. Examples include manual tax adjustments or benefits adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local tax regulations. Registrations for tax account setup as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and reconciled data between various platforms and Workday.
  • Ensure monthly reporting obligations are met both internally and externally with tax agencies.
  • Generate and review payroll reports and reconcile for payroll data to ensure accuracy.
  • Respond to employee inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data in Workday.
  • Conduct quarterly and year end review. Process W-2s and reconcile payroll data. Resolve payroll adjustments due to changes and issue W2Cs as needed.
  • Provide support during payroll audits and ensure all documentation is accurate and accessible.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in US payroll processing.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in using Workday for payroll processing is strongly preferred. At a minimum experience in a similar payroll management system.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to create complex formulas, vlookups, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of US payroll laws, regulations, and tax requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple payrolls simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Certification in Payroll (CPP) is preferred but not required.

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Process multistate semi-monthly and monthly payroll for 1400+ employees under varying EINs. 
  • Manage payroll tax liabilities. Ensure accurate and timely filing of all payroll-related taxes. 
  • Assist with the annual year-end W-2 reconciliation process, ensuring complete accuracy and timeliness. 
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. 
  • Assist in testing payroll system updates, enhancements, etc 
  • Setup Workman's Compensation, Unemployment, and other applicable programs in new states. 
  • Verify timesheets, review time off requests and missing punches. 
  • Enter employee information and payroll data into the system. 
  • Answer employees' questions and concerns regarding payroll. 
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies. 
  • Maintain and update employee and payroll records. 
  • Prepare payroll reports for finance each pay period. 
  • Work with third party administrators to ensure proper administration of 401k 
  • Partner with Finance and PeopleOps  
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.  

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Payroll required. 
  • Experience with complex state payroll laws in CA, UT, NY, PA a plus 
  • High school diploma/GED, advanced degree in business or accounting preferred. 
  • Proficient with technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office 365. 
  • Knowledge of Paylocity a plus. 
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, as well as emphasis on attention to detail. 
  • Understanding of math pertaining to payroll. 
  • A team player with the ability to also work independently. 
  • Experience in prioritizing tasks appropriately and excellent organizational skills. 
  • Understands and does not compromise confidential employee and patient data.

In your role, you will be owning the employee payroll cycle and employment statutory compliance in multiple countries that we operate in.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews and guarantees submission of payroll-related data to service providers, statutory filing requirements and payroll approvals.
  • Manages existing relationships with payroll, accounting and benefits service providers.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers to run their monthly payroll cycle.
  • Responsible for ensuring full data integrity.
  • Be able to go from “scout to scale” and actually start things up

The Opportunity

As our EMEA Payroll Specialist, you'll manage and provide full payroll administration support for the EMEA payroll which includes UK, Germany, Spain and France.You will act as subject matter expert and main point of contact for all EMEA payroll queries, providing responses on a timely basis and ensuring issues are resolved. You will work to identify areas for improvement in existing payroll-related processes, tools, reports, taking initiative to propose and drive through changes, with the support of the Payroll Managerand ensure data integrity in all payroll systems.

 

The Team

Our global finance team includes specialists from FP&A, Accounting and Payroll.  In EMEA, we have a team of 8 who collectively, manage all accounting activities across the UK, Spain, France and Germany.

 

What we are looking for

  • Extensive hands-on expertise in managing global or EMEA payroll operations
  • Knowledge of UK statutory payroll regulations
  • Experience of working with a 3rd party payroll provider
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Thorough attention to detail and the ability to spot inconsistencies/mistakes in data through audit processes
  • Liaising with the HR Administration team to ensure all changes are captured accurately and by the monthly payroll deadlines and ensuring all necessary payroll documentation.
  • Collaboration with the Finance and business unit teams to accurately reconcile payroll accounts.Maintain reconciliations of each of the payrolls ensuring that the payroll data is verified and checked against previous monthly data.
  • Create payroll timetables and ensure that these are published and adhered to by each of the payroll providers.
  • Learn and ensure all local government regulations are adhered to. 
  • Knowledge and experience in payroll systems including new hire onboarding paperwork, department transfers, salary changes, terminations, deduction and earnings changes and other payroll/benefit changes. 
  • Distribute the leaver P45s on a monthly basis.
