We are looking for a superstar data scientist, who is familiar and experienced with applying machine learning and deep learning in the area of healthcare. This role requires proven hands-on experience training and optimizing models, building production-ready inference pipelines in Python, performing exploratory data analysis & enrichment, and validating models for issues like bias, overfitting, and concept drift.

Since we primarily work in healthcare and life science, background in medicine, pharma, bioinformatics, or biostatistics is highly beneficial. A PhD degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Qualifications

The primary responsibilities will be working as part of a team in customer-facing projects - building models and machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and time series forecasting pipelines that address specific business needs. Working knowledge of Python and TensorFlow are a must; experience with Spark, Spark NLP, and other technology stacks is a big plus. The customer facing aspect of this role also requires strong oral & written communication skills.

We are looking for experts who are looking for long-term freelancing contracts, and wish to work on cutting-edge problems, learn and grow. This role for individuals who can commit at least 30 hours per week to this project. We are not able to consider agency or team applications.

· Hands with common data science toolkits, such as Python, scikit learn, numpy, pandas, plotly, TensorFlow, ElasticSearch, Auto-ML platforms like AWS Sagemaker

What we’re looking for:

Seasoned Lead Data Scientist that can build and embed intelligence into the products that deliver significant business value to Partnership credit services business vertical of Tide

As the Lead Data Scientist you’ll be:

  • Work closely with our Partnership Credit Services team in order to solve business problems that drive effective decisions for the business. This would be in areas of Lender Behaviour, Lead Priority Engine and Intelligence to match Lenders with Prospective Members 
  • Come up with High level road map for Data Science initiatives that can aid decisioning and improve Business Performance
  • Understand business requirements and solutionize data products in order to solve them
  • Identify creative solutions in order to build relevant training data sets
  • Train models and optimize hyperparameters
  • Work closely with our machine learn engineers and data engineers in order to productionize models
  • Come up with adoption of newer methods and methodologies 
  • Coach junior data scientists on best practices

What makes you a great fit:

  • You have 7+ years of experience in Software development or Machine Learning. Strong in Python
  • You have extensive experience working within financial services, especially Credit Services but not mandatory
  • You have extensive experience with Machine Learning tools - scikit-learn , TensorFlow, Keras or PyTorch
  • You have experience with big-data technologies such as Spark, SparkML, Hadoop etc. Strong knowledge of Cloud (AWS or other).
  • You have excellent leadership skills - you have managed a team of data scientists before and coached them to become better versions of themselves
  • You have excellent business acumen, you manage to translate business problems into data products 
  • You have excellent communication skills including the ability to explain statistical concepts and technical tradeoffs to business users
  • You have experience in training, optimising and deploying a variety of ML-algorithms, such as logistic regressions, boosted trees and neural networks
  • You’re a self-starter - you take initiative in spotting opportunities and finding ways to solve challenges with data
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and competing objectives in a fast paced environment
  • Experience working in agile teams
  • Familiarity with basic data table operations (SQL etc.), data transform in warehouse (dbt etc.) and business intelligence softwares (eg. Looker)
  • Familiarity with model observability and explainability at scale

The Department: Service Fundamentals (Trust & Safety)

Trust & Safety at Gemini is a team dedicated to stopping bad actors, securing our user’s funds and ensuring the integrity of Gemini’s digital asset marketplace. We are a diverse group of technology, data, and operational professionals who develop new approaches to solving classic problems using cutting edge tools and processes. Data is central to all of our business functions and drive many of our most important decisions at Gemini. As a result, the data analysts and scientists, operations associates and engineers that make up the Trust & Safety team are uniquely positioned to advise and influence cross-functional projects. These projects cover a wide-range of topics including fiat returns, identifying low quality and fraudulent users, and using on-chain information to support fraud detection.

The Role: Data Scientist

As a member of our Trust & Safety data science team, you’ll shape the way we approach data at Gemini by using your analytical and communication skills to work with teams across the business. You will focus on customer onboarding, transactions, and payment strategies to lower payment return rates and identify and off-board bad actors from Gemini, as well as manage ad-hoc requests from cross-functional teams. You know how to ask the right questions and are passionate about using data to support and drive informed business decisions. You are ready to roll up your sleeves and are excited to take on challenging opportunities and projects. You’ll work with other data scientists, analysts, engineers, and fraud operators to guide strategies and achieve KPIs while communicating your insights with leaders across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, monitor, and mitigate fraud activity
  • Develop and implement high precision fraud prevention controls
  • Process, clean, and visualize data from complex databases and create top-notch reporting solutions
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, fraud operations, and other functions to drive insights for the Trust and Safety team
  • Design experimentation frameworks such as decision trees and A/B test models,  identify leading indicators of fraud losses, and develop strategies to improve fraud capture rates 
  • Design, build and enhance dimensional models for BI solutions
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve production and data issues
  • Create test plans, test scripts, and perform data validation
  • Tune SQL queries, reports, and ETL pipelines
  • Build and maintain data dictionary and process documentation
  • Research new tools and technologies to improve existing processes

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ years experience in data analytics, strategy analytics or modeling role
  • 4+ years experience developing a BI applications (Tableau/Looker/Power BI, etc)  
  • Advanced skills with SQL are a must
  • Proficient in Python
  • Experience with one or more MPP databases (Redshift, Bigquery, Snowflake, etc)
  • Experience with one or more ETL tools (Informatica, Pentaho, SSIS, etc) 
  • Experienced in working collaboratively across different teams and departments
  • Strong technical and business communication
  • This role may require on-call rotations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Developing LookML
  • Knowledge and experience of financial markets, banking or exchanges
  • Experience working in small firms or start up technology first

Salary Range: The base salary range for this role is between $120,000 - $150,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington.   • Lead the design, analysis, and interpretation of projects from data requirement gathering to data processing, modeling, and recommendations for various departments across the company
