The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Technical Program Manager who will play a key role in priority enterprise-level initiatives, influence security across our organization, and drive the implementation of our Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning strategy. We are looking for TPM with a proven track record of developing and shipping high-quality AI/ML technologies and services and integrating them into products and experiences. This role will have the opportunity to work closely with AI/ML engineers, AI/ML Scientists, Infrastructure Engineers, Product Experience members, and leaders across the organization. The role will help evolve a security program focused on enabling CZI staff while ensuring that we protect sensitive information in an active and robust environment while adhering to security measures applied to the Production Infrastructure (e.g. architecture, authentication, data usage policies). We’ve set out to build a unique corporate security program by closely working with our engineering and security teams together rather than relying on traditional enterprise structures and silos.

What You'll Do

• Partner closely and drive technical excellence with engineers, product managers, and others from CZI's technology teams to build flexible and robust security programs that continuously evaluate, track, and manage risks tied to architecture, infrastructure specifications, launch criteria, and test plans
• Serve as an internal champion and consultant for security and privacy, demonstrate end-to-end ownership of security and thought leadership across multiple teams, and influence program direction and plans
• Understand technology requirements, roadmap, dependencies, evolution, and develop a plan for mitigating risks and delivering features that meet the requirements across multiple products
• Stay current with the latest AI/ML research and technologies and assess their potential application
• Work cross-functionally to develop best practices and development processes in a quickly changing and dynamic environment, drive impact through the deployment of key initiatives, and garner adoption of those processes
• Communicate complex AI/ML concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
• Assess products and procedures for inclusion in CZI’s AI scaffolding and compliance with necessary requirements, standards, and information assurance
• Participate in on-call rotations for security incident response

• Technical program management, software engineering, or systems engineering experience

Compensation

The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $178,000.00 - $267,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market. The Team

The Collaboration Systems team configures, maintains, and secures the systems that power CZI’s employee collaboration tools. As a Collaboration Systems Technical Program Manager, you will work cross-functionally within CZI’s Central Tech teams and across the organization to deploy modern solutions that drive the work behind our mission.

This role falls under the Corporate Infrastructure team within Central Tech, which is responsible for the IT and collaboration infrastructure used across the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

What You'll Do

• Lead the strategic planning and implementation of collaboration solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
• Shape and drive long-term strategy for collaboration tools and solutions, leveraging data-driven insights, user needs, organizational goals, and risk analysis.
• Act as end-user subject matter expert for tools such as Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, and Slack, offering training, support, and creating accessible documentation to enhance employee performance.
• Perform needs assessments with stakeholders, guiding tool selection, deployment, and prioritizing requirements for maximum efficiency and productivity.
• Facilitate smooth change management processes for successful user adoption, continuously identifying opportunities for operational improvements.
• Drive workflow, efficiency, and productivity enhancements by understanding business processes in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Monitor collaboration system performance, seek feedback for ongoing optimization, and remain informed about technology trends.
• Manage relationships with vendor partners for end-to-end tool support, ensuring the tools meet organizational needs and standards.

• At least 5 years in program or project management, ideally within end-user support or collaboration systems.
• Experience in solutions engineering with end-user focus in collaboration tools like Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, Zoom, and Slack and their AI features.

CZI supports the science and technology that will make it possible to cure, prevent, or manage all diseases by the end of this century. We build open-source software tools to accelerate science and generate more accurate and biologically important sources of data. This role sits on the Brand and Communications team and reports to CZI’s Head of Brand and Communications. In this role, you will partner closely with other senior science leaders throughout CZI and our network of scientific institutes known as the Biohub Network, coordinating and planning integrated communications and nontraditional storytelling opportunities across these interconnected organizations. 

The Opportunity

The Vice President of Science Communications role at CZI is an opportunity for an accomplished senior communications professional to lead a science communications team for a fast-paced and innovative philanthropic organization. CZI’s mission for science is to support the science and technology that will make it possible to cure, prevent or manage all diseases by the end of the century. As part of the Brand and Communications team, you will help build trust, credibility and engagement to inspire the world and the scientific community to champion and contribute to that mission.

What You'll Do

• Develop and lead creation and execution of integrated science communications strategy in close partnership with other senior leaders on the Brand and Communications team as well as throughout CZI and Biohub Network. 
• Increase understanding of CZI’s impact among key audiences through proactive, integrated communication planning, thought leadership content development and active, ongoing traditional and non-traditional media engagement.
• Partner with product marketing to support shared goals for our sci-tech tools. 
• Identify and execute the positioning strategy for science leaders including developing message platforms, identifying and evaluating speaking and media engagements, writing scripts, speeches, talking points and background materials.
• Anticipate and mitigate crisis communications issues by monitoring the internal and external landscape, developing communication plans/talking points on relevant issues and coordinating with key stakeholders and spokespeople.
• Serve as spokesperson and prepare other spokespeople as needed. 
• Provide strategic guidance and consultation with cross-functional teams, executives, leaders, and partners. 
• Develop, coach and retain a high-performing communications team.

What You'll Bring

• 15+ years of experience as a senior-level communications practitioner, with a demonstrated history serving as a spokesperson and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain media relationships
• 10+ years of people management experience.
• Experience working as an advisor and counselor to senior leaders, executives, or other high-profile individuals.
• Crisis and issues management experience
• Outstanding writing and editing skills, including demonstrated and advanced experience in science communications
• Passion about Science, Technology, and the work we are doing at CZI
• Willingness and ability to work collaboratively, adapt to a dynamic work environment, and navigate complexity and multiple priorities to deliver results.

The Team

The Science MEL team works to ensure that Chan Zuckerberg Science practices data-driven decision-making and relies on monitoring and evaluation to systematically learn and improve. The team works across the Chan Zuckerberg Science ecosystem, including CZI Science programs/tech teams and the CZ Biohub Network.

The Opportunity

The Senior Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Associate, Science will report to the Director for Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) in Science. Among several job responsibilities, the Senior MEL  Associate, Science, will contribute to the MEL team’s work by engaging with Science staff to implement ongoing data collection and analysis and assist in interpretation and communication of the data. In particular, this role will emphasize the use of MEL data systems. In addition to strong technical monitoring and evaluation skills, the Senior MEL  Associate, Science should have significant familiarity with various data systems used in the MEL field, as well as the ability to introduce new systems when relevant. 

What You'll Do

• Build relationships with staff across the CZ Science ecosystem, including program staff, SciTech staff, and Biohub staff. 
• Work with staff across Science on data collection, analysis, and reporting. 
• Design and conduct internal evaluations (including evaluation design, data collection, analysis, and reporting).
• Collect, code, and analyze data that teams can use for data-driven decisions.
• Contribute to the development of monitoring, evaluation, and learning reports for leadership.
• Identify and apply data analysis/visualization systems (e.g., STATA, Qualtrics, PowerBI, etc.) to MEL work, when and where appropriate.
• Explore new data systems that could advance CZ Science’s MEL capabilities.

What You'll Bring

• At least 4 - 6 years of relevant experience working directly in MEL
• Strong knowledge of the evaluation field and core monitoring and evaluation concepts, methods, and practices, and ability to apply these to real-world funding programs
• Comfort, fluency, and creativity in designing and implementing information systems that facilitate data-driven decision-making, a strong knowledge of current industry-standard platforms and software for data analysis/visualization, and ability to become proficient in new data tools and platforms as needed
• Strong ability to collect, code, and analyze data; comfort and fluency in quantitative and qualitative data analysis tools that can be leveraged for evaluation
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Ability to work across broad topical areas and among diverse teams 
• Comfort working with scientists and philanthropic grantmakers
• Experience working in philanthropy and/or science is a plus
