The mission of the Web Platform team is to design, explore and create a solid foundation for our web products. Our customers are primarily other engineers. It’s our job to help improve developer efficiency by providing libraries/APIs/frameworks, monitoring performance, improving build tools, etc. This role will enable us to execute one of the most important projects for the company now - a complete redesign of the web experience.  Part of this role’s responsibilities will be to own the design and execution of the complete redesign of Reddit Website both on mobile and desktop.  In addition, this role will be instrumental in developing systems that help improve the quality, performance, and observability of the application.

What We’re Working On

  • Architecture redesign of our Frontend platform.
  • Driving new features from end-to-end through prototyping, validation, implementation, launch, and continuous iteration.
  • Crafting a modern user experience for accessing content and communities on Reddit.
  • Building the technical foundation for future features and experiences.

What We Can Expect From You

  • 8+ years of experience in web application development using JavaScript, TypeScript, or other relevant language.
  • Experience with NodeJS and one or more front-end web frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular
  • Deep experience with a modern web stack, whether it's Javascript bundlers, React internals, etc.  You've debugged it, you've improved it, you can imagine doing it better.
  • Expert with software engineering best practices such as unit testing, code reviews, design, and documentation.
  • Willingness to buck trends and learn new ways to build software.
  • Passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that improves people’s lives globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a highly scalable, high quality, and low latency Web Platform at Reddit’s scale.
  • Partner across product, design, and engineering teams to innovate and implement sophisticated solutions to complex challenges.
  • Build, and maintain feature systems spanning web and backend services.
  • Participate in the full development cycle: technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch. You’ll be reviewing code and design docs, and giving feedback on product specs and mocks.
  • Manage individual projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables with your technical expertise.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques, and coding standards.

Are you a Full Stack developer, or a Full StackOverFlow developer? ????

Well, be it as it may! We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer for our client. They have a website with heavy traffic and they're looking for a Senior Node.js wizard to build highly performant code and queries to maintain and debug their site. They have a web interface that is server-side rendered, and are revamping their tech stack to keep up with its high demand. Their ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative, creatively solves problems, is intent on creating maintainable and reusable code, and has experience in a wide range of technologies.

Want to know what you'll be doing?

  • Improving their legacy code, and investigating the code base: you're a fearless warrior who isn't afraid of the word "legacy"
  • Helping the team migrate into Bootstrap, HTML and VanillaJS, as well as a little Vue
  • Solving tricky issues by relying on your experience and your initiative to meet deadlines and get creative
  • Building code that will have an immediate positive impact. Creating code that is tested, maintainable, readable, and reusable
  • Teaming up with coworkers to share knowledge and collaborate
  • Creating tickets when needed, and making architectural decisions

 

What kind of experience are we looking for?

  • Top-level Node.js and Javascript skills
  • Great grasp of package management and microservices architecture
  • Experience with internal and/or 3rd party APIs: building, integrating, and testing
  • Confidence in your test writing skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Bootstrap 5 & HTML5
  • Strong experience with MySQL and MongoDB
  • Experience with these technologies/tools: ES6, ExpressJS, Grunt, ElasticSearch, Gitlab, GitHub, NewRelic, Nginx, PM2, JIRA, Debian, Jenkins/CI, Confluence, or similar

Nice-to-haves

  • A proven track record of maintaining and debugging highly trafficked websites in Node.js
  • DevOps experience in a Node.js environment
