Key Role Responsibilities: 

  • Help own and build out new features within our cross-platform TypeScript React Native app, and Golang backend APIs.
  • Manage our releases, using tools like cohorting, feature flags, and app-store infrastructure to ensure a safe rollout to our millions of active users.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with product, design, and the business to ensure stakeholder needs are being evaluated and met.
  • Work with the team to continuously build clean, scalable, robust, and testable code.
  • Develop a deep working knowledge of your application, data domain, and KPIs.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 6+ years experience solving technical problems as part of a team.
  • Experience developing and delivering a mobile application to Apple and Google’s mobile app stores.
  • Strong familiarity with modern Frontend Development, Javascript or Typescript, and building applications with React Native, or similar cross-platform framework.
  • Understanding of relational databases like MySQL.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledgeable in writing automated tests for applications (unit, integration, end-to-end), and implementing them in a CI environment.
  • Ability to solve problems with backend-focused languages like Go, Python, Java or similar.
  • Familiarity with typical microservice architecture composed of HTTP APIs.
  • Experience working with native code on iOS, Android.

The position

The position

You'll be joining a team of over 200 engineers, spanning across Frontend, Backend, SRE and QA. We're organized into cross-functional development teams assigned to a specific area of our product. As Senior QA Engineer, you will be part of a QA team that, together with the engineers, covers the full quality scope of our products.

You will mainly be focusing on a limited scope of the product, where you will work closely with product managers, engineers and designers in order to make sure the team has a proper test plan and that you yourself stay up to date with the latest changes. You will help teams identify areas of improvement and how to measure quality progress. You will define and improve best practices, document and train teams to use them.

We write tests in Cypress, and we use Gitlab for Continuous Integration and Delivery. Together with your team members you will ensure that engineers have the right tools and processes to deliver world-class quality products.

We’re hiring seasoned engineers to join our teams that work on customer-facing products, developing features and iterating across our platform to help define the customer financial journey at Gusto. Here’s what you’ll do day to day:

  • Architect, build, and test Gusto’s product suite the spans across Payroll, Benefits, HR, Time, Tax Credits, and more
  • Mentor other engineers to help solve some of the hardest technical problems out there in very complex domains and at a large scale
  • Work and help scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and Javascript/React applications in the world
  • Collaborate with our product management and design teams to understand customer pain points, come up with solutions, and then prototype, iterate, and launch daily
  • Build a product that our customers genuinely love.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience as a technical lead, overseeing the work of multiple teams on projects
  • Experience architecting, building and testing large-scale production level code
  • Demonstrated data modeling skills
  • Passion for creating memorable experiences for customers
  • Interest in complex product development problems -- we use Rails & React
  • Appreciation for a collaborative, test-driven environment
  • Able to build well-structured, easily maintainable, well-documented code 
  • Preferred background in one of the following areas:
    • AI/Machine Learning 
    • Experience building for fintech, payroll, payments or tax products

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $170,000/yr to $202,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $206,000/yr to $244,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 daysper week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.

Project

In your future project you will directly work with our customer from the energy solution industry, dedicated to decarbonization of major industries in global economy. A key focus will be the development of the existing analytics environment of our customer to explore, develop and orchestrate analytics, including simple rule-based models and machine learning algorithms.

Main tasks

  • Visualization of analytical models
  • Simplify application for end customers and internal users.
  • Create performance reports and dashboards for asset operation

  • Help to Build a Mock Environment for Unit and Integration Testing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in the following areas: Computer science, Engineering or Information Technology or equivalent work experience in IT
  • 2-5 years of overall IT experience of which majorly in technologies involving Javascript/Typescript, node, angular
  • At least 1 year experience in development of complex frontends
  • One who can contribute as a ‘team-player’ - troubleshoot issues /help team-members when need arises & participate in knowledge-sharing actively.
  • Good communication skills as the role involve demonstration of product / solutions to internal and external stakeholders
  • Good English written and oral skills.
  • Should be very well conversant in some of the below:
  • Fluent in a frontend language and framework (typescript/node/angular or similar)
