Software Engineering (Intern)  | Acorns

Acorns is seeking motivated Software Engineering Interns specializing in web and backend development to join our team for a 10-week internship. In this role, you'll play a key part in developing innovative solutions that harness the power of artificial intelligence to address real-world challenges. Throughout the internship, you'll work alongside experienced professionals, gaining valuable hands-on experience and contributing to impactful projects in the field of artificial intelligence.

This role has the option to be remote within the United Statesor based in our Irvine, CAoffice.

Work sponsorship is not available for this role, including Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT),  F-1 Visa program, and other visa sponsorships.

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Familiarize yourself with our company's technologies, tools, and development processes, with mentorship support

  • Be comfortable communicating ideas to a group of internal stakeholders, explaining rationale behind design decisions

What You’ll Bring to the Table: 

  • 2+ years of industry experience, including design of responsive web
  • Degree or diploma in UX/interactive/graphic design, or equivalent
  • Experience with an e-commerce platform or subscription based service is an asset
  • Interaction design experience including responsive web, mobile app, information architecture, etc.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including development, and providing guidelines and assets required for implementation
  • Knowledge of facilitation, able to recommend ideation workshop activities and comfortable leading a room
  • Experience utilizing user research and testing to inform design decisions. Ability to prepare for and run unbiased user interviews, and contribute to synthesizing results

  • Familiarity with SecDevOps and CI/CD best practices
  • Knowledge of cloud security, including AWS

Mobile Experience Management (MEM) team owns a solution that enables customers to easily manage their mobile devices and provides functionality and features that are optimized for their operations. In this role, you will: 

  • Work with product managers, designers, and infra engineers to architect, build, test, and deliver full stack features across front-end, back-end, and mobile.

  • Spearhead the development of automated functional integration tests and E2E tests across all our products utilizing open-source test frameworks.
  • A Hands-on self-motivated engineer capable of working collaboratively in building a continuous integration environment. 
  • Perform complex database queries and manipulations for test, staging, etc.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, smoke, E2E, load and performance testing.
  • Assist with manual testing as needed.
  • Develop trained data, test data, and model validations for machine learning tests.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Lead the development of cross-platform mobile applications using Flutter and Dart.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and other developers, to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Architect and implement scalable and maintainable code structures, following best practices and design patterns.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers on the team.
  • Work closely with UI/UX designers to implement custom user interfaces and animations.
  • Integrate mobile applications with RESTful APIs and other web services.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure code quality, performance, and security.
  • Write unit tests and integration tests to ensure the reliability and robustness of the applications.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in Flutter and mobile app development.
  • Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Qualificações

-BSc/MS in Computer Science.

-Proficiency in using the Flutter framework for building cross-platform mobile applications.

-Strong understanding and command of the Dart programming language.

-Knowledge of cross-platform mobile development principles.

-Experience in deploying apps on both iOS and Android platforms.

-Understanding of mobile UI/UX design principles.

-Expertise in state management solutions in Flutter, such as Provider, Riverpod, or Bloc.

-Experience in integrating Flutter applications with RESTful APIs and other web services.

-Proficiency in writing unit tests and integration tests for Flutter applications.

-Experience with version control systems, such as Git.

-Knowledge of various app architecture patterns, such as MVC, MVVM, or Clean Architecture.

-Experience in implementing scalable and maintainable code structures.

-Familiarity with CI/CD processes for Flutter applications.

-Fluency in English (written and spoken).
