Vox Media is hiring a Remote Games Editor, Polygon

Polygon is looking for a Games Editor to help shape and direct its coverage of video games. This role will manage editors and writers, edit and shape coverage, and also write occasionally as well.

WHO WE ARE

Polygon is a modern entertainment brand, covering the media that young people love. We connect our audience directly to the content they want to enjoy; to the culture and the inclusive community they want to be a part of; and to the stories and ideas they otherwise wouldn’t know existed.

Polygon is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.

As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As Games Editor, you’ll work with our Deputy Editor, Games to bring high quality video games coverage to Polygon that meets our readers’ interests. You’ll find stories, vet pitches, assign work to writers and other editors, and edit coverage, which includes news, analysis, reported stories, impressions, reviews, and continuing post-release coverage. You’ll lead brainstorms and plan around big tentpole events, and find stories to delight our readers between the big releases. You’ll use data to see what coverage resonates with Polygon’s audience. You’ll lead by example by writing as well.

The Games Editor also will be a linchpin in managing members of the games team, including both editors and writers. You’ll help them set and reach their own goals while also aligning with the overall demands of the Polygon’s games section. You’ll also collaborate with writers and editors across our guides, culture, entertainment, curation, commerce, and video teams.

WHO YOU ARE

Our ideal candidate is an empathetic people manager with experience leading teams. You’ll be experienced growing editors and writers, leading them to success through thoughtful feedback and mentorship.

You have a vision for the future of video games coverage, and want to match that vision to Polygon’s style, but also push us forward. You’re knowledgeable about the games space, but always curious about what’s new and different.

You’re a skilled editor who can help bring the best out of a writer’s pitch, shape a draft to be more compelling, or put the perfect headline on the finished product.

You’re comfortable with using modern newsroom strategies and tools to help stories find their audiences, like SEO, social and community platforms, and web analytics tools.

You’re organized and aren’t afraid of an editorial calendar. You like to spend time planning for long-term coverage while also adapting to changing trends as news happens.

You’re collaborative, and comfortable sharing your opinions and feedback respectfully yet directly. You can work not just with your own team, but with other teams and verticals.

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We would love to have a chat and see if you could be a great addition to our team. We’ve hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to excel at sourcing and crafting an emotionally compelling narrative that hooks viewers immediately and keeps them watching. The Dodo is the #1 media brand for reach on mobile in the U.S., and the most engaged media brand globally across all content genres. We tell fun, entertaining, emotional stories about animals that make people laugh, cry happy tears, feel ALL the feels, and fall in love with animals.

    • Consistently pitch and bank strong projects with viral potential and meet monthly or quarterly deliverables
    • Produce videos from scratch with guidance from managers — conducting a pre-pro call with the talent, constructing a narrative, establishing a shot list that delivers on that vision, conducting interviews, and editing the produced footage into a cohesive story
    • Create and maintain strong relationships with talents — this includes regularly following their platforms for updates and establishing a regular pipeline of communication for future pitches
    • Brainstorm new ideas for both midform and shortform content

    WHO YOU ARE

    • Consistently exceeds team benchmarks
    • Consistently produces story beats needed to create a complete arc and deliver on the social copy

    • Embraces new challenges and smartly experiments with new formats while remaining true to the brand and best practices
    • Understands business needs and individual role in meeting company goals
    • Proactively takes on projects and initiatives that contribute to the success of the team

    • Has an active presence on social media, creating content on a regular basis for their profile — particularly on TikTok — and is comfortable being on camera
    • Has a proactive, can-do attitude and collaborates with others across the team
    • Calm under pressure and proactively pivots when needed
    • Proficient in Premiere and can efficiently use our template and follow guidelines so videos are consistently free of technical mistakes

UX Designer - Language Design (REF2382D)

Deutsche Telekom IT SolutionsBudapest, Debrecen, Szeged, Pécs, Hungary, Remote
    apiUXbackend

Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions is hiring a Remote UX Designer - Language Design (REF2382D)

    Job Description

Coming from a monolithic application landscape as baseline, Telekom Deutschland already made good progress in selected Greenfield areas like Fiber (“Gigabit Geschäftssystem”) and on decoupling the legacy backend landscape from fast-moving touchpoints with a basic set of German E-APIs. While the foundation of the transition is being laid, the need to accelerate and scale up these initiatives has become obvious to leverage the beforementioned advantages for the business.

The transformation, compared to simply evolving the Telekom Germany IT Strategy, is consisting of 3 new aspects:

    1. Instead of so far driving the decoupling focused on the German organization, it is a clear goal of Telekom Deutschland to initiate the initiative as a joint program for all European Telekom locations. This will make the Magenta API a common northbound API layer for multiple, cross-European touchpoints for both sales and service, providing true omnichannel capabilities. Hence, we are now facing the challenge to:

    • Significantly scale up the delivery organization to meet the ambitious timeline triggered by top management prioritization of the IT architecture evolution described.
    • Align with DT EU in synchronizing our ‘API Specifications’ into new Magenta API, replacing the European HAL Approach and German E_API Approach
    • Adjust to EU Governance and Prioritization for delivering API

    2. A certain set of functionalities will be defined as central Digital Services, partly delivered by EU, DTDL and Telekom Germany. This set is not ready defined, and neither are the delivering instances

    3. Beside the alignment on M-API Specifications and central Digital Services, the 3 touchpoints (oneAPP, oneShop, MaVi) will be aligned for EU and Germany as well, meaning:

    • Telekom Germany will adapt the OneApp approach from EU
    • Telekom Germany will adapt the OneShop approach from EU
    • EU will adapt the OneView approach, being the Magenta View for Germany refactored to become tenable for all NatCo’s

    Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced UX-Designer/Technical writer with strong focus on language and text with a degree in journalism or German studies or similar.

Main tasks of this skill are:

    • Excellent written and spoken German skills are essential
    • Creation of user-oriented texts for the intuitive use of web interfaces, including button labels and understandable error messages
    • Implementation or development of language guidelines
    • Development of communication concepts for IT applications
    • Supporting the team in creating texts
    • Analysis of the target group, the market and the competition with regard to language use
