Where You Come In:

  • Help to design and implement the architecture of a large-scale crawling system
  • Design, implement, and maintain various components of our data acquisition infrastructure (building new crawlers, maintain existing crawlers, data cleaners & loaders)
  • Work on developing tools to facilitate the scraping at scale, monitor the health of crawlers and ensure data quality of the scraped items. 
  • Collaborate with our product and business teams to understand / anticipate requirements to strive for greater functionality and impact in our data gathering systems 

What you’ll be bringing to the team:

  • 3+ Years experience with Python for data wrangling and cleaning
  • 2+ Years experience with data crawling & scraping at scale (100+ spiders at least)
  • Productionized experience with Scrapy is mandatory. Distributed crawling and advanced scrapy experience are a plus.
  • Familiarity with scraping libraries and monitoring tools highly recommended (BeautifulSoup, Xpaths, Selenium, Puppeteer, Splash)
  • Familiarity with data pipelining to integrate scraped items into existing data pipelines.
  • Experience extracting data from multiple disparate sources including HTML, XML, REST, GraphQL, PDF, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience running, monitoring and maintaining a large set of broad crawlers (100+ spiders) 
  • Sound Knowledge in bypassing Bot Detection Techniques
  • Experience using techniques to protect web scrapers against site ban, IP leak, browser crash, CAPTCHA and proxy failure.
  • Experience with cloud environments like GCP, AWS, as well as containerization tools like Docker and orchestration such as kubernetes or others.
  • Ability to maintain all aspects of a scraping pipeline end to end (building and maintaining spiers, avoiding bot prevention techniques, data cleaning and pipelining, monitoring spider health and performance).
  • OOP, SQL and Django ORM basics

Even better if you have, but not necessary:

  • Experience with microservices architecture would be a plus.
  • Familiarity with message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc
  • Experience with DevOps
  • Expertise in data warehouse maintenance, specifically with Google BigQuery (ETLs, data sourcing, modeling, cleansing, documentation, and maintenance)
  • Familiarity with job scheduling & orchestration frameworks - e.g. Jenkins, Dagster, Prefect

Position Overview:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or equivalent degree.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated technical, IT, or Operations experience within a large-scale technology services environment in the following areas: Software development, database design, and infrastructure support.
  • Strong proficiency in MongoDB database administration, architecture, and performance tuning.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including infrastructure design, deployment, and management.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS database services such as Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon Redshift.

    Job Responsibilities

    At first glance our salary bands seem quite wide - here is some context. At Remote we have international operations and a globally distributed workforce. We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.

    The base salary range for this full-time position is between $42,750 USD to $96,200 USD. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

    Responsibilities

    • Partner with the Finance team to determine the requirements for the structure of data and functionality in the Financial Data Hub and the flow of data between the Hub and Finance's software.  Design and build the Hub and its connections based on those requirements.
    • Become a financial data subject matter expert and use that knowledge both to inform the design and build of the Financial Data Hub and to contribute to expanding the breadth, depth, and accuracy of Finance CDS, the principal direct source of financial data for the Hub and for business users across Oscar.
    • Promote data fidelity in upstream data producing systems and expand quality checks within Finance CDS and the Financial Data Hub.
    • Partner with Engineering to validate updates to raw financial data structure within an evolving production system and update Finance CDS and Financial Data Hub code accordingly while preventing service interruption for stakeholders.
    • Identify opportunities and implement solutions to enhance the efficiency of existing financial data transformations, with a focus on speed, cost-effectiveness, and stability.
    • Train and mentor data scientists and data engineers in analytics engineering best practices

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
    • 3+ years of experience working with a variety of database languages, including SQL, DDL and DML with demonstrated ability to efficiently transform data and databases.
    • 2+ years of experience with cloud database tools (GCP, AWS, Azure)
    • 2+ years of experience developing within a modern data transformation tool like DBT.
    • 1+ years of experience working with and presenting to non-technical stakeholders.

    Experience:

    • 10+ years of industry experience with at least 5 years in a pre-sales capacity handling enterprise accounts

    • Expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas: cloud migration strategies, services offered by the major Cloud Service Providers (CSPs), cloud native development, containers and orchestration, and Infrastructure as Code

    • Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and tooling, especially for cloud native applications

    • Development or scripting experience preferred. Knowledge of how to use APIs and methods a plus.

    • Industry certifications preferred (e.g. CISSP, CCSP, CCIE, AWS Certified Security Specialty Certification, Microsoft Certified Azure Security Engineer Associate, Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist, etc.)

    • Knowledge of risk-based security assessments and frameworks

    As a Staff Security Engineer on our Detection and Response team, you will help detect and respond to threats for one of the biggest online platforms in the world that handles massive amounts of traffic at very low latency.

    We are looking for a teammate with expertise in both security engineering and operations and that values the complement between the two. You will have the opportunity to build and integrate tooling and detections, as well as investigate threats and lead incidents. As part of the larger Security organization, we make risk-informed decisions and prioritize automations to help us scale. As the lead engineer on our team, you will design, build, and mature our detection and response program, enabling rapid detection and effective response to threats against Fastly. You will lead large, complex, cross-team projects and mentor other security engineers on our growing team. 

    What You'll Do:

    • Lead the design and implementation of a robust Detection Engineering program
    • Develop detections and other analytics to identify threats across cloud, corporate, and edge environments
    • Partner closely with Engineering, Security Architecture, Risk Management, Compliance, and other teams to prioritize detections and delivery of other security initiatives
    • Triage and investigate security threats and lead security incidents
    • Research, evaluate, implement, and maintain a variety of custom and commercial security tools, such as Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), anti-phishing, and Security Information and Event Monitoring (SIEM)
    • Develop strategies, frameworks, designs, automations, metrics, and processes to support the maturity of the Detection and Response program
    • Develop and maintain incident response playbooks and other detection and response documentation
    • Conduct threat hunts to discover unknown malicious activity across our environment
    • Participate in our on-call rotations
    • Mentor other team members and contribute to larger Security initiatives

    What We're Looking For:

    • Expertise in utilizing Splunk to include investigating threats, developing metrics and dashboards, normalizing data feeds, and integrating with other tools

    • Experience in implementing “Detection as Code”
    • Experience in securing, developing detections, and responding to incidents in one major public cloud infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
    • Experience in effectively leading large and complex security incidents from detection to remediation
    • Familiarity with modern security frameworks and best practices, such as the MITRE ATT&CK framework and NIST CSF

    • Experience with Linux administration at scale, associated intrusion/manipulation techniques, and standard methodologies for system hardening and process isolation

    • Developed automations to improve security operations
