About the Role

Our Account Executives target and close new business with some of today’s most innovative companies. In this role, you’ll both nurture inbound leads in your territory with marketing-led support as well as prospect into a target list of select accounts. You will do this by driving opportunities through the entire sales cycle from pipeline generation to closure, employing a value-oriented sales methodology with a focus on use cases spanning customer data and marketing activation. The ideal candidate will have the aptitude and passion for becoming an expert in CockroachDB’s product capabilities, business impact, and competitive advantagesand loves to build long-lasting relationships with customer needs at the center.Location is flexible for this role but you must be based on the West Coast of the US to be eligible.

You Will

  • Close new logos and expand existing business within an assigned territory, meeting and exceeding sales goals through prospecting, qualifying, managing, and closing sales opportunities 
  • Leverage and coordinate cross-functional internal teams (Sales Development, Legal, Engineering, Security, Marketing, Product) to efficiently navigate complex sales cycles
  • Maintain, build and own specific relationship maps for your territory, including existing relationships and aspirational contacts
  • Lead compelling presentations of CockroachDB’s product and vision to a broad range of audiences, from c-level executives to individual contributors
  • Provide timely and accurate forecasts and clear visibility on sales and revenue performance by actively handling your pipeline of opportunities

The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you will learn about CockroachDB and will be able to pitch the product proficiently. We believe that it is necessary for you to build this foundation so you can successfully engage with existing accounts and grasp the sales strategy. Upon completion of your first month, you will have built cross-functional relationships and will have started building your strategy for account penetration. 

After three months, you'll have a sound plan for account strategy and mapping. You have started building relationships with several leaders across your region and are beginning to understand their challenges and how CockroachDB can help solve them. 

After six months, you will have 3x your quota in pipeline and will have at least 3 POCs in process.  

You Have

  • 5+ years of experience selling enterprise solutions and demonstrated success in software sales within the database ecosystem or adjacent technologies
  • Experience leading large and complex sales cycles within the C-Level at Fortune 500 companies 
  • A consultative and value-based approach to selling software for cloud, on-premise and hybrid deployments
  • The ability to assess customer needs and build valuable, trusted relationships at all levels 
  • A track record of overachievement and hitting sales targets
  • Expert time management and resource skills

About the Role

Our Customer Success Managers help fully onboard our CockroachDB customers and lead them to fully utilize its potential, lead them to production, allocate resources, and alleviate roadblocks. We believe that in order for a Customer Success Manager to be successful, they must have a good understanding of database technology, the overall stack, and infrastructure that CRDB operates within. They must also possess excellent customer facing and consultative skills, with the ability to understand the customer pain points, define success criteria, critical milestones that lead to production, and project plans for success. This Senior CSM will focus on some of Cockroach Labs’s most strategic accounts within the financial services sector and will be a trusted advisor to the customer and, in collaboration with Sales, must understand how to get deeper and expand the account while preventing churn. Location is flexible for this role but you must be based in the Northeast US. 

You Will 

  • Collaborate closely with the account team, including the Account Executive and the Sales Engineer, to provide ongoing technical coverage and support to your assigned customers.
  • Define the technical success plan for each customer, outlining the optimal use of Elastic solutions to achieve their business objectives.
  • Ensure a successful technical customer journey, from onboarding to adoption, while continuously driving the consumption of CockroachDB
  • Work closely with customers to identify and eliminate technical frictions, promoting a smoother adoption and implementation of CockroachDB.
  • Liaise between customers and support to ensure an optimized support resolution experience smoothing the adoption curve for the customer.
  • As a hands-on technical authority, collaborate with the Service Team to present personalized, frictionless solutions that meet the unique needs of each customer.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the customer's business needs and translate these into technical requirements for Cockroach Labs. 
  • Find opportunities for expansion, at which point the account team takes over to expand the subscription, aiming to grow annual recurring revenue (ARR).
  • Foster ongoing customer relationships, ensuring that customers continue to increase their utilization of CockroachDB, further driving ARR.
  • Continuously review and assess customer consumption of CockroachDB, proactively suggesting upgrades and enhancements that increase value and drive further consumption.

The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you will learn about CockroachDB and figure out where the product would be a good fit for certain use cases. During this time, we also believe it’s important for you to establish internal relationships across sales, product, and engineering to effectively be able to navigate resources to help you in your efforts with customers.

After 60 days, you will be learning refactoring opportunities to create reusable artifacts. As you continue to grow in the role, you will be moving into owning the artifacts supporting sales. The major artifacts are sizing, best practices and industry solutions. The artifacts creation and re-use are key to help both pre and post sales activities.

You Have

  • 7-9+ years of experience as a Customer Success Manager, Project Manager or Technical Account Manager with a proven success record
  • 3-5+ years of experience managing a high-value strategic account, ideally within financial services
  • Experience working with sales teams
  • Knowledge of databases, distributed systems, and modern enterprise software architecture
  • Successful track record of driving product adoption and expansion through understanding the customer's current (and future) database requirements
